Women’s Self-Defense teaches students how to fight in real-world situations so that they’re never caught unprepared.

Barbara is a 7th degree black belt and consistently trains to improve her foundation and skill both in Kenpo and in teaching in order to provide the best service that she can. Barbara is an RN Case Manager who has worked full-time at Hoag Hospital since 1997. She loves being in service to others and uses her nursing skills to volunteer at Royal Family Kids Camp each summer. Barbara is the founder of the Kenpo Women’s Symposium, an organization for the purpose of recognizing women in the martial arts. She, along with a team of 9 women hold live and zoom symposiums for the purpose of helping women find community and grow in the martial arts.

Program Options

6-week program of 1-hour private lessons with Mrs. White.

1.5 – 2-hour group class available on Sundays upon request. 10 person minimum.

Self-Defense teaches you how to defend yourself by building on your body’s natural reactions to being attacked and giving you the tools – and the strength – to disarm and defeat your opponents. As you train, you’ll build stamina and hone your reflexes until you are a fighting machine.

The focus of this class is to introduce basic self-defense concepts: acceptance, attitude, awareness, intuition, recognizing danger and responding to it, becoming a hard target, and fighting back. The course includes simple techniques that can be used for self-defense, and building an arsenal of tools that the student can take home. Class will include hand-out material, focus pad work, and partner attacks.

Nobody wants to be the victim of a crime, and yet it happens to people every day. The best way to avoid being harmed is to know how to defend yourself.

Self-Defense training emphasizes teaching students how to react in real-life situations. It’s not theoretical – it’s practical and effective.

You won’t have to worry about figuring out how to translate your Self-Defense training outside of the dojo, because our instructors will help you do it.

Self-Defense Training IS A KILLER WORKOUT

It can be hard to get a great workout without someone to push you. If you want to be a total badass, the treadmill isn’t going to get you there.

Self-Defense training is intense…but FUN! Repetitive kicking and punching burn a ton of calories, and testing to move up a level requires mental and physical toughness. You’ll use every muscle.

Whether you want to lose weight or just get in the best physical shape of your life, Self-Defense training can help you do it.

PRACTICAL SELF-DEFENSE AT ITS BEST

One of the hardest things about learning self-defense is overcoming your natural instincts to learn new moves.

Self-Defense works with those instincts – such as bringing your hands up to protect your face – and turns them into powerful moves that allow you to defend yourself and drive attackers away.
